The Temple Beth Sholom Guardians was founded in 1995 by 14 Temple member families concerned with the challenges facing our synagogue and the need to encourage and support its programs and initiatives.
Over the years the Guardians supported programs financially that have enhanced Temple life such as: adult, youth and early childhood educational programs, the Torah restoration project, scholar-in-residence weekends, implementation of Sholomplex, and educational trips for religious school classes to New York City on multiple occasions.
The Guardians priorities have been to respond to the needs of the TBS community. The members have given life to proposals that are ‘start-ups’ and innovative, rather than for operational financial expenditures or maintenance of Temple facilities. The Guardians are committed to the continuity of our synagogue by monetarily supplementing specific activities and by assuming a leadership role as a group.
The Guardians meet 3 or 4 times a year, generally on Sunday mornings, where current issues are discussed and new projects brought to the group by Temple officers and clergy are considered. Invited speakers have included Rabbi Bazer, Rav-Hazzan Sokol, other educators, and influential people from the Greater Boston Jewish community.
The Guardians encourage Temple members to become active participants in the group. For further information, contact Ellen or Donald Bloch, current co-chairs, at their home, at (857)-284-7855 or through the Temple office.
