Join us as Joel Sussman leads our Shabbat morning service on January 26th. A Kiddush Luncheon will follow the service.
Joel Sussman was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where his family were active members and leaders in the Jewish community and Beth Shalom Synagogue. After graduating from University of Alberta he spent a year in Israel working on Sherut La’am (Israeli Peace Corp). He then moved to Boston to get his M.B.A. from Northeastern University.
Joel is a founding member, musician and co-song writer for the internationally acclaimed Jewish musical group SAFAM, and is still performing with them throughout the country.
For the past 25 years, Joel has officiated along with Rabbi Harold Kushner as Chazzan Sheini for the High Holidays at Temple Israel of Natick. He also helps prepare youngsters for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah and has regularly lead services at the Newton Centre Minyan and at Camp Yavneh.
Joel lives in Newton, MA along with his wife Debbie (past director of Camp Yavneh) and is an active member of both Temple Emanuel and the Newton Centre Minyan. Their married children and grandchildren all live in the greater Boston area.
